Composting for industry & logistics

Food waste management for industrial sites, logistics hubs and staff canteens. Recycled at source: one of the two routes Article 22 provides, with fifty-two collections a year down to a handful.

A worked example

What it looks like on a typical site

788kg of food waste a year, estimated for a 200-person site
79€ excl. VAT a month: composter, bulking material, maintenance and support
6removals a year: how often the mature compost has to be taken away, arranged locally
Your constraints

Three constraints
you know well

QHSE compliance & audits

Your QSE/QHSE function wants documented traceability. Your food waste obligation adds another layer. You have to be able to prove everything, at any moment.

Our answer. A log sheet supplied with the composter: date, weight and destination at each emptying. You keep the record, and we give you the emission factors and the method so your own team can calculate the saving.

Site security & access control

Your sites have strict rules: passes, traffic plans, limited slots for outside contractors. A collection 2 times a week means over 100 visits a year.

Our answer. With 1 to 12 visits a year instead of two a week, access management becomes far simpler: the operator you contract comes a handful of times, on one pass for the year.

A tight facilities budget

Your facilities budget is run to the line. Every expense has to be justified. Composting looks like one more sustainability cost.

Our answer. Against a conventional weekly collection, our offer comes out between 50% cheaper (small volumes) and 15% cheaper (larger volumes).

A worked case, with figures

A 200-person site,
and what it costs

A mess room and packed lunches, no canteen on site, 250 operating days a year. The figures below come from our calculator, using the same method as your online quote.

The volume
  • 200 peopleon site on a normal day
  • 250 daysworked a year
  • Mess roompacked lunches and breaks, no canteen on site

788 kg of food waste a year

That is 788 kg a year, concentrated around breaks and the midday stop.

The quote that follows
  • 1 ABC composterdelivered, bulking material, maintenance, training by video call and awareness kit79 €

Total79 € excl. VAT/month

48-month commitment. You keep the compost and use it on site.

Optional Removal of the mature compost, if you do not use it yourself: it is arranged with a local operator of your choice, and we help you scope the brief. As a French benchmark, a site like this one takes 6 collections a year, that is +60 € excl. VAT a month, bringing the total to 139 € excl. VAT a month.

Composter on a logistics platform, near the welfare facilities
On your site, in practice

How it works on your site

From accepting the quote to the first emptying: the location is agreed within 24 hours, delivery follows in 1 to 3 weeks.

  1. Where it goes

Near the welfare facilities or the mess room, away from vehicle movements. The location is agreed with your health and safety manager before delivery.

  2. The caddies in the mess room

One per eating area, including the 3x8 shift stations. The action simply joins the sorting already in place on site.

  3. Training, shift teams included

We train on whichever slots suit you, night shifts included, with the instructions displayed in the mess room.

  4. Taking the compost away

Six removals a year in this case, on a logistics slot; you arrange them with a local operator. The indicators drop straight into your site environmental reporting.

Two ways of doing it

The composter on its own,
or with a local collection

Emptying is optional. If you have a green space, a kitchen garden or planted beds, the compost stays with you.

The most economical

79 € excl. VAT/month

The ABC composter delivered, the bulking material delivered, maintenance, remote training and the team awareness kit. You keep the compost and use it on site.

See this offer
With local collection

139 € excl. VAT/month

The same, plus the mature compost taken away: 6 removals a year for this example, handled by a local operator you contract. Nothing piles up on your site.

See this offer

In France, collection is billed at 10 € excl. VAT a month per annual visit, from 1 to 12 collections a year depending on your actual volumes; elsewhere the removal of the mature compost is arranged with a local operator of your choice, and we help you scope the brief. Above 1,500 kg a year, a second composter is added.

Your obligation

Food waste separated at source: this now applies to you

An industrial site produces food waste as soon as it feeds its people, even with no canteen. Wherever you operate, that flow now has to be separated at source and recovered, like the other waste streams you already track; the exact regime depends on your jurisdiction.

Rules differ from one jurisdiction to the next, but the direction is the same everywhere: food waste has to be separated at source and recovered, either composted on site or collected separately. Check what applies where you operate.

Questions from the sector

What we are asked most often

Will the composter stand up to an industrial environment?

The vessel is steel, designed and built in our own workshop, made to stay outdoors all year. Wearing parts are easy to swap, and we supply them as spares.

Does it need any particular connection?

None. No electricity, no water, no drainage, no civil works: a slab or stabilised ground is enough.

How does it fit our health and safety approach?

The location is agreed with your health and safety manager, away from vehicle movements. The reporting gives kilos and CO₂ avoided, directly usable in your site indicators.

What if we have several sites?

One contract, the same price per site, the same team for the whole account and consolidated reporting across the estate.
