Composting for offices & workplaces

On-site composting for head offices, coworking spaces and office sites. A sustainability result you can report, a discreet unit, and food waste recycled at source: one of the two routes Article 22 provides.

A worked example

What it looks like on a typical site

520kg of food waste a year, estimated for a 150-person head office
79€ excl. VAT a month: composter, bulking material, maintenance and support
3removals a year: how often the mature compost has to be taken away, arranged locally
Your constraints

Three constraints
you know well

Quantified sustainability, not slogans

Your sustainability team is asking you for hard numbers. Food waste, left unmanaged, is just a cost line and an obligation.

Our answer. A log sheet supplied with the composter: date, weight and destination at each emptying. You keep the record, and we give you the emission factors and the method so your own team can calculate the saving.

Employee engagement

Your staff want their work to mean something, and graduates look at your environmental record before they sign. A newsletter is no longer enough.

Our answer. Engagement material included: a video tour of the workshop, photographs of the compost in use on local farms, signage on the composter itself. Tangible, and something to be proud of together.

The break area is a visible space

Your canteen or coffee area is a place people live in. Putting a composter there without caring how it looks means creating an eyesore.

Our answer. A composter with a designed look, customisable finishes (company logo, five colours to choose from). Made for visible spaces, in keeping with your visual identity.

A worked case, with figures

A 150-person head office,
and what it costs

150 people on site on a normal day, a tea point, no staff restaurant. The figures below come from our calculator, using the same method as your online quote.

The volume
  • 150 peopleon site on a normal day
  • 220 daysworked a year
  • A tea pointcoffee, tea, packed lunches, no staff restaurant

520 kg of food waste a year

That is 520 kg a year, the equivalent of two full 240-litre bins.

The quote that follows
  • 1 ABC composterdelivered, bulking material, maintenance, training by video call and awareness kit79 €

Total79 € excl. VAT/month

48-month commitment. You keep the compost and use it on site.

Optional Removal of the mature compost, if you do not use it yourself: it is arranged with a local operator of your choice, and we help you scope the brief. As a French benchmark, a site like this one takes 3 collections a year, that is +30 € excl. VAT a month, bringing the total to 109 € excl. VAT a month.

How it works on your site

From accepting the quote to the first emptying: the location is agreed within 24 hours, delivery follows in 1 to 3 weeks.

  1. Where it goes

A terrace, a delivery yard, a bike store, a car park: the composter takes less than one square metre. No foundations, no connections, no permit. It simply stands there.

  2. The caddies in the tea point

One caddy per break area, with the sorting poster above it. Coffee grounds, tea bags, lunch leftovers and peelings all go in.

  3. Raising awareness

One remote session at the start, then the visuals and the internal communication kit. Your teams see where the material goes, and why.

  4. Taking the compost away

Three removals a year in this case, easy to schedule outside office hours; you arrange them with a local operator. You still get the kilos composted and the CO₂ avoided for your non-financial reporting.

Two ways of doing it

The composter on its own,
or with a local collection

Emptying is optional. If you have a green space, a kitchen garden or planted beds, the compost stays with you.

The most economical

79 € excl. VAT/month

The ABC composter delivered, the bulking material delivered, maintenance, remote training and the team awareness kit. You keep the compost and use it on site.

With local collection

109 € excl. VAT/month

The same, plus the mature compost taken away: 3 removals a year for this example, handled by a local operator you contract. Nothing piles up on your site.

See this offer

In France, collection is billed at 10 € excl. VAT a month per annual visit, from 1 to 12 collections a year depending on your actual volumes; elsewhere the removal of the mature compost is arranged with a local operator of your choice, and we help you scope the brief. Above 1,500 kg a year, a second composter is added.

Your obligation

Food waste separated at source: this now applies to you

A head office with no kitchen still produces food waste: coffee grounds, leftovers from packed lunches, fruit baskets. Wherever you operate, that flow now has to be separated at source and recovered; the exact regime and any thresholds depend on your jurisdiction.

Rules differ from one jurisdiction to the next, but the direction is the same everywhere: food waste has to be separated at source and recovered, either composted on site or collected separately. Check what applies where you operate.

Questions from the sector

What we are asked most often

Does a composter in an office building smell?

No. The mechanical mixing and the aeration keep the compost in aerobic conditions, which give off no odour. The bulking material added with each load absorbs the moisture. That is exactly what separates composting from an organic bin left shut.

Do we need a dedicated room?

No. The composter is made for outdoors and takes less than one square metre. A terrace, a courtyard, a corner of the car park or a bike store is enough. It consumes nothing and needs no connection.

Who takes care of emptying it?

Your own teams. They tip the caddies into the composter, and when the compost is ready they empty it into a 120 L bin: under five minutes, with no compost handled by hand. The bulking material and the maintenance are covered by the rent.

Are the figures usable for our sustainability reporting?

Yes. You receive the kilos diverted, the CO₂ avoided and the recovery distance. These feed into a carbon footprint, a CSRD report or a site record.
